A slew of household names – from national treasure Dawn French to Spongebob Squarepants – are heading to Granite City for a sparkling new season for Aberdeen Performing Arts.
Top-notch family entertainment, unforgettable West End hits and amazing performances from Scottish Ballet – plus the return of the Granite Noir crime writing festival.
The new shows were revealed in His Majesty’s Theater and Music Hall’s spring brochure, which includes pre-announced dates for Jersey Boys, Six and Charlie, the Chocolate Factory and a new version of Dracula at its world premiere at HMT.
Big family shows are on their way to His Majesty’s Music Hall
APA Director of Programming and Creative Projects Ben Torrey said, “2023 just keeps getting better.
“We are excited to announce that next year’s shimmering bantu will be the enchanted Sleeping Beauty, and before that, many more great family shows are on the way.”
Dawn French will be performing her new show at the Music Hall on Thursday, October 26th. Its title – Dawn French Is A Huge Twat – may raise some eyebrows.
But Dawn explains, “The show is named because, unfortunately, it’s terrifyingly accurate. I’ve made stupid mistakes too many times.”
“I thought I might tell some of these embarrassing and painful stories to give the audience a behind-the-scenes look at my career.”
A Broadway smash will be HM’s SpongeBob Musical July 18-22, a song-and-dance show where our daring hero must save Bikini Bottom from a volcano.
Homegrown talent takes the stage at His Majesty’s Theater in Aberdeen
Helms a slew of upcoming family shows in the theater, including Disney’s Winnie the Pooh (July 14-16) and David Walliams’ Devil Dentist (June 22-24), while Roald Dahl’s The Three Little Pigs will be in Music Hall. March 19th.
Adults can expect two big shows from Scottish Ballet – A Streetcar Named Desire (27-29 April) and Cinders (25-27 January 2024).
There will also be a joint APA-National Theater of Scotland premiere of Dracula: Minaune’s Tale from September 2-9.
Local talent will also be front and center with student show Aberdeen featuring Ayetanic (19-22 April) and Lyric Theater series on Kinky Boots (19-22 April).

Meanwhile, HMT’s The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel pick has been announced from April 4-8. Leading the list will be Paul Nicholas, Ruth Madoc, and Tessa Beck-Jones.
Other delights in the new booklet include confirmed dates for next year’s Granite Noir Festival, the wildly popular festival of detective novels. It will be held at various venues across the city from February 23-26.

Scottish Ballet’s A Street Car Named Desire is a truly stunning production and joins an already packed lineup of amazing musical performances at HMT.
