Nantucket, Mass. (AP) — Musician Jean-Baptiste is set to host President Joe Biden’s first state dinner at the White House on Thursday, highlighting the longstanding ties between the United States and France and honoring President Emmanuel Macron.

“An artist who transcends generations, John Baptiste’s music inspires and brings people together,” said Vanessa Valdivia, a spokeswoman for First Lady Jill Biden, whose office oversees the preparation of the dinner.

“We are thrilled to have him perform at the White House at the first state dinner of the Biden-Harris administration,” Valdivia said.

Macron’s black dinner will be part of what is shaping up to be a busy social season at the White House. Biden’s granddaughter, Naomi, was married on the South Lawn earlier this month. On Monday, First Lady Jill Biden is set to unveil the White House decorations that will be seen by thousands of vacationers over the next month.

Battisti will add the White House artist to an already long list of roles, including recording artist, conductor, musical director, film composer, museum creative director, and scion of New Brunswick’s Royal Musical Family. Orleans.

He won five Grammy Awards this year, including Album of the Year for the song “We Are.” At the awards ceremony in April, Batiste ended her dance-infused performance of “Freedom” by jumping on a Billie Eilish table.

Batiste, 36, was most recently a bandleader and musical director for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” leaving broadcasting after seven straight years.

Batiste composed, advised, and arranged songs for the animated Pixar film Soul. He won a Golden Globe Music Award alongside Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails. The trio also won an Oscar for Best Original Score. For their work on “Soul”, Batiste, Reznor and Ross won a Grammy Award for Best Vocal Recording for Visual Media.

The Washington Post was the first to report that Battisti would be performing at the dinner.
