Meta’s Instagram social network Announce today Launched new ‘Notes’ feature designed to allow Instagram users to share their thoughts using text and emoji. Notes are described as short messages of up to 60 characters, which means they’re similar to a tweet, but with support for fewer words.

Notes can be shared by going to the top of your inbox, selecting your followers or people in your close friends list, then writing a note and sharing it. Notes will appear at the top of your inbox for 24 hours and replies will be displayed as direct messages.

During testing, we learned that people love having a simple, lightweight way to share their thoughts and start conversations. Whether it’s asking for recommendations or sharing what they’re planning, Notes gives users a spontaneous, spontaneous way to express themselves and connect with each other.

Instagram will also soon introduce group profiles, which will allow multiple users to share posts and stories through a dedicated shared profile.

Hidden stories are also being tested, as Instagram aims to add BeReal-like features. Visual Stories are only visible to those who also share their Candid with you, and are intended to be used to “share what you’re doing right now”. Instagram will send daily notifications to post a filter unless the setting is disabled.

Comments is rolling out today, while Visual Stories is being tested and will be available to select users. Group profiles should appear in the near future.
