David Fincher received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the French Film Academy

David Fincher will receive the French Film Academy’s highest honor, a César Honore for his entire body of work, during the César Awards in February, the French equivalent of the Academy Awards.

The director of “Se7en”, “Fight Club”, “Gone Girl” and “The Social Network” has been hailed by the French Academy as “one of the few directors whose entire filmography has become iconic over the years”.

The Academy said in a statement announcing the honor: “A distinguished artist, true vision, and mind-blowing cinematic cinematography of countless artists.”

Fincher got his start in the industry at the age of 18 working for Korty Films in Mill Valley, California, and worked at George Lucas’s Industrial Light and Magic before leaving to direct television commercials and music videos. His video work features Madonna, Sting, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, and Aerosmith, among many others. He won two Grammy Awards for Best Music Video, for the Stones’ 1995’s Love is Strong and 2014’s Suit & Tie for Justin Timberlake.

She has a host of award-winning films, including The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Earlier this year, Fincher spoke out about Chinese censorship of “Fight Club” after the film’s original ending was restored on Chinese streaming service Tencent Video, which previously replaced its final moments with a title card depicting a completely different ending.

Fincher is closely associated with Netflix and has also garnered multiple awards and accolades for groundbreaking series like ‘House of Cards’, ‘Mindhunter’ and ‘Love, Death & Robots’. Last year, he produced the “See” series. Visuals that celebrate cinema for the streaming service.

The nominees for the 48th Cesar Gala will be announced on January 25th. Fincher will be honored at the 48th Cesar Gala in Paris on February 24. The show will be broadcast live on the paid channel Canal +.

Australian actress Cate Blanchett received an Honorary Cesar Award earlier this year. French actor Jean-Pierre Bakri received the honor in 2021. Robert Redford was the last American to receive the honor in 2019.
