Bianca Andreescu on playing alongside Nick Kyrgios: The chemistry was great

by admin

2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu enjoyed playing mixed doubles with Nick Kyrgios because she felt their chemistry was great throughout the WTA match in Dubai. Andreescu and Kyrgios, representing Team Kites at the WTA premiere, beat Eugenie Bouchard and Holger Rohn 6-2, 6-3.

“I thought the chemistry was great from the start. We both look good out there so I thought we would save a lot of energy and play really well. I think we both have good hands. I think he puts a little bit of pressure on me on the serve and on the air so I hope he keeps going.”

How Andreescu and Kyrgios beat Bouchard and Ron

The first break points of the match were seen in the third game, when Bouchard and Ron had three straight break points. Facing three break points in a row, Andreescu and Kyrgios didn’t panic as they saved all three break points to lead 2-1.

Bouchard and Ron paid the price for the lack of breakout opportunities as Andreescu and Kyrgios got their first points of the game in the fourth period to take a 3-1 lead. In the eighth game – with Bouchard and Ron still in the opening set – Andreescu and Kyrgios took a second break to win the opening match.

After winning the first set, Andreescu and Kyrgios had the first break point of the second set in the sixth game, but failed to see that Bouchard and Ron had leveled the set at three games apiece. Andreescu and Kyrgios may not have claimed a break in Game 6, but they managed to break down Bouchard and Ron in Game 8 for a 5-3 lead.

In the ninth game, Andreescu and Kyrgios served continuously in the match. Although Andreescu and Kyrgios won the opening match, Kites lost to the Eagles. It remains to be seen if Andreescu and Kyrgios can pull off more wins for the duo.
