Governors Museum Melinda McCurdy of Huntington Wolf Burchard at the Museum of Modern Art in New York presents the exhibition to the press.

Huntington’s most immersive gallery feels like walking into a movie. The walls are painted in saturated colors, Disney songs play in the air, and real Disney movie wallpapers are enlarged and layered on multiple walls.

The decorative arts include collections of Chinese porcelain, candlesticks, and ceramic figurines. There are many hand-drawn cartoon cells and movie clips from the Walt Disney Archives. Obviously, films were first inspired by art, created on paper and then transferred to the screen.

The centerpiece of the Disney Antique is Disneyland’s first large-scale bird’s-eye view. Created to raise money from New York bankers, the sketch was completed over a fall weekend in 1953 by artist Herb Ryman, as Walt Disney was hovering nearby. This picture is not far from what was eventually built.
