Governors Museum Melinda McCurdy of Huntington Wolf Burchard at the Museum of Modern Art in New York presents the exhibition to the press.

“Disney is a global phenomenon that everyone can identify with,” Museum of Modern Art New York curator Wolf Burchard begins the visit. The Huntington Library and Museum of Art and Botanical Gardens, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Wallace Collection in London, and are on display at Huntington, 1151 Oxford Street. in San Marino, through Monday, March 27.

The show connects Walt Disney’s fascination with Europe, particularly France, with the creativity of his films and theme parks.

Huntington’s most immersive gallery feels like walking into a movie. The walls are painted in saturated colors, Disney songs play in the air, and real Disney movie wallpapers are enlarged and layered on multiple walls.

She presented the three films “Beauty and the Beast”, “Cinderella” and “Sleeping Beauty”. Original books containing fictional stories that inspired the movies are on display. Disney acquired these copies of the books during one of its many trips to Europe. He was also an avid collector of the miniatures on display.

More than 50 pieces of intricate decorative art and numerous 18th-century paintings, many from Huntington’s private collection, fill the halls. The decorative arts include collections of Chinese porcelain, candlesticks, and ceramic figurines. There are many hand-drawn cartoon cells and movie clips from the Walt Disney Archives. Obviously, films were first inspired by art, created on paper and then transferred to the screen.

The centerpiece of the Disney Antique is Disneyland’s first large-scale bird’s-eye view. Created to raise money from New York bankers, the sketch was completed over a fall weekend in 1953 by artist Herb Ryman, as Walt Disney was hovering nearby. This picture is not far from what was eventually built.

Another trifle is that the vocal introduction to this show is the last ensemble work performed by Dame Angela Lansbury, who played Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. Being a complete pro, she did it perfectly in one take.

It’s a great fair that’s fun for the whole family. Reservations are required for weekend visits. Tickets are available at Huntington.org
