Courtesy of the French publication, premiering our first look at Johnny Depp’s comeback, titled Jean du Barry. As seen in the pictures below, Depp plays King Louis XV, the lover of the ladies’ title, who plays himself. Mayween. Interestingly enough, Maïwenn not only acts, but also serves as the film’s director and co-writer. She co-wrote the screenplay alongside Teddy Lucy Modeste.
“Jeanne du Barry” is the sixth film directed by Maïwenn, who achieved great success as a director thanks to her 2011 film, ” police‘, which debuted at Cannes and won all sorts of awards that year. Some believe that ‘Jeanne du Barry’ will mark Maïwenn’s return to Cannes since production on the film ended in October, and we’ve already gotten our first look at the film.

Netflix embarked on the project last summer, but the release date for “Jeanne du Barry” is unknown at the moment. If the film debuts in Cannes, we can probably expect the film to hit French theaters in 2023. Now, depending on whether Cannes and Netlfix can strike a deal, perhaps “Jeanne du Barry” will have to exclude it from the competition. Otherwise, we could see the movie end up at another festival.
It doesn’t matter when and where “Jeanne du Barry” debuted, Johnny Depp’s official comeback is upon us. We’ll have to see how the public accepts it in the future.
