The report says that renewable energy growth in France is not meeting its targets

The share of renewables in the French electricity mix was estimated at around 26% last year, up slightly from 25% in 2021.

The country’s offshore wind installed capacity increased to nearly 20 GW in September, but fell short of the target of 24 GW by 2023, according to the report.

By 2028, the French law on multi-year energy programming expects to install 33 GW to 35 GW of offshore wind capacity, but at the current rate, France is on track to drop to 29,4 GW, according to the report.

“It has been confirmed that the current progress has not kept pace with the development as defined in personal protective equipment,” reads the report, which was prepared by various organizations including the French Institute for Environmental Change Ademe.

The pace of solar PV installations in 2021 and part of 2022 is “catching up, but it’s not putting the entire sector on track,” he said.

In September, France had 15.8 GW of installed solar PV capacity.

At the current rate, it is expected to reach 31.4 GW by 2028, short of its legislative target of 35 GW to 44 GW.

On January 10, the National Assembly approved the first version of a new bill to accelerate renewable facilities by streamlining administrative procedures and focusing on wind and offshore solar energy.
