It was announced on Tuesday 4 April that more than 80 artworks from the private collection of famous French actor Alain Delon will be auctioned in June.
Delon, now 87, has become one of the epitome of French style in the 1960s with roles in classic films like “La Piscine,” “Le Léopard,” and “Le Samoura.l.”
Its art collection is worth between 4 and 5 million euros and includes classic works by Delacroix and Veronese.
It will be presented in New York, Hong Kong, Geneva, London and Paris before going to auction on June 22.
I bought my first painting precisely in 1964 in London. Over the years, I’ve acquired more drawings, portraits, and sculptures that have moved, spoken, and sometimes even comforted me, said the actor at Bonhams Cornette de Catalog dessales Saint Cyr, Paris.
“These works have accompanied me for many years and have been a part of my life.”
Among the pieces are an oil painting by Raoul Dufy, valued at between 600,000 and 800,000 euros, and a portrait of Delacroix from 1825, valued at 600,000 euros (about $650,000).
Dillon sold a large collection of contemporary paintings in 2007, saying he hated the idea of selling after his death.
“Some people buy cars,” he said at the time, “others prostitute—the best selfies.” “I bought out of passion, not for investment.”
He’s also given away other portions of his holdings in recent years, selling his wine collections, watches, and weapons in 2016. /ra
