Johnny Depp as King Louis XV as Jean du Barry
The period drama will see the Pirates of the Caribbean actor return to the big screen as King Louis XV. The film is directed by French actress and director Maïwenn Le Besco, who will play the main role of Madame du Barry.
The film is about Jeanne Vaubernier, a young working-class woman who loves culture and fun. Then she uses her intelligence and charisma to climb the social ladder. Jeanne gradually becomes a favorite of King Louis XV, but he does not know that she is a courtesan. Accompanied by the King, the King discovers his appetite for life and they fall in love. Then Jeanne arrived in Versailles, scandalizing the court.

Along with Johnny Depp and Moen Le Biscot, the French film will feature Benjamin Lavergne, Louis Garel and Pierre Richard in the main roles.
Jeanne du Barry is produced by Pascal Caucheteux of Why Not Production Company and Grégoire Sorlat, Depp’s IN.2 production company, La Petite Reine and France Télévisions. In addition, the Red Sea Film Festival is the executive producer of the film.
It is scheduled for release on May 16, 2023 – the same day as the Cannes Film Festival premiere.
