Microsoft discloses Windows 11’s first AI feature for Smart Layouts

by admin

Windows 11 is slated for a big upgrade in the fall, and one of the new features could be an AI-powered Snap. Capture and window experiences are set to get an AI upgrade to revamp the user experience soon. One of the first novelties will be “Smart Snap”, which aims to modify the behavior of Snap Assist in the operating system.

An early version of Windows 11’s AI-powered Smart Snap Layouts feature has finally been spotted in preview builds, with plans to launch later this year. Microsoft is working internally on the Smart Snap feature, which is finally starting to show up in preview. However, it appears to be hidden and will only work in certain configurations.

Windows comes with the Snap feature which allows you to have multiple application windows on a single screen (multitasking) and increases productivity by letting you choose from different layouts and sizes. This makes it easy to optimize screen space while working on specific tasks.

With Windows 11, Microsoft introduced “Snap Assist”, which appears automatically after capturing the first window, displaying open windows as thumbnails to choose which windows to add to the selected layout.

You can change the size of layout tiles by selecting and dragging the divider lines, ensuring no screen space is wasted.

Upcoming changes to Windows 11 Snap feature include integration of Smart Capture feature to improve user experience. Windows Latest understands that this feature is similar to AI in that it can memorize and understand user hooking behavior.

Dubbed “Smart Snap” internally, Microsoft’s new feature will allow the operating system to remember Snap layouts for certain groups of apps, which can be restored with a single click.

As you can see in the GIF we recorded above, Windows 11’s Snap Assist feature can remember layouts and offer suggestions.

The ability to remember Snap layouts will benefit power users who frequently multi-task using the same set of apps. You should configure instant layouts when you close applications or restart your device. The introduction of AI-powered Snap Layouts in Windows 11 will simplify the restore process, making it more efficient and easy to use.

Additionally, Microsoft is considering the idea of integrating Microsoft 365 into File Explorer and showing real-time recommendations.
