Carter Verhaje scored the overtime goal for the Florida Panthers, defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 in Game 3.
Verhaeghe fired a wrist shot into traffic, defeating Golden Knights goaltender Aden Hill by four minutes, 27 seconds into the extra frame.
Tiger star Mateo Tkachuk scored the tying goal with 2 minutes and 13 seconds left in the third period. Verhaeghe fired a shot from the top of the circle and the ball bounced off the stick of Tkachuk, who made no mistake on approaching Hill off center. Tkachuk missed much of the first half after receiving a shoulder-to-shoulder kick from Golden Knights forward Keegan Kolesar.
Opening the scoring, Brandon Montour scored his seventh playoff goal, his first since his team’s opener in the second round series against the Reds. Toronto Maple Leafs. Montour caused a traffic snag on the shoulder of Golden Knights goalkeeper Eden Hill to take a 1-0 lead, but that was short-lived.
The Captain of the Golden Knights made a mark on the stone. The game was tied late in the first half in a power play. Stone stood alone in front of the net as the Panthers used a defensive triangle kick and Jonathan Marquessault headed in a clean penalty kick for his team’s first goal. Stone, who was the hero of the first game, made a secondary pass past Marchesault.
Marchesault scored for the fourth game in a row, receiving a perfect pass from Jacques Eichel and slamming it in from Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky with just over five minutes left in the second period.
Game 4 resumes on Saturday as the Panthers look forward to the series at home.
