Electronic Arts is changing things up, initiating a major overhaul across the company in an effort to “empower our creative teams” and make “faster, more insightful decisions about development,” according to CEO Andrew Wilson. But don’t waste your winnings just yet; This decision won’t have much of an impact on the casual EA IP fan.
Instead, it’s kind of an inside chapter, with EA Games rebranding as EA Entertainment (with a wider reach) and the ever-lucrative expansion of EA Sports becoming its own thing entirely. Regarding the restructuring, Wilson (who will continue to oversee both organizations) said, “We are building the future of interactive entertainment on the foundation of legendary franchises and innovative new experiences, which represent huge opportunities for growth. »
Laura Meili, who was previously COO at EA, will now take over as President of Central Entertainment, Technology and Development. Meanwhile, EA Sports will continue to lead Cam Weber, whose role will expand accordingly. Under the EA Entertainment umbrella, industry veteran and Respawn Studios founder Vince Zampella will continue to “lead the world-class studios responsible for Apex Legends, Star Wars games, and Battlefield.”
What do you think of this move from EA? What do you think of the worst company in America that wins twice these days? Five years ago, our readers were still mostly nervous about the company, which at the time was still obsessed with microtransactions, to be fair. Let us know in the comments section below.
