One of the largest and most successful celebrations of French culture outside of France, July 14th in New York, takes place on Sunday, July 16th, 2023.
France’s National Day is celebrated on July 14 every year, marking the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille and the start of the French Revolution. (If the holiday does not fall on a Sunday, New York celebrates that day before or after the Sunday.)
Not only do festivities take place across France—including fireworks, concerts, parties, and a military parade on the Champs-Elysées in Paris—but July 14th festivities also take place in major cities and small towns around the world.
The event has been held in New York, sponsored by the non-profit organization Institut Français Alliance Française (FIAF), for more than two decades. Some 30,000 residents and visitors took part in last year’s celebration, and it’s a favorite among Francophiles.
This year’s family event will be held at Sunday 16th July From 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm. The Bastille Day Center in New York is located on Madison Avenue, from 59th Street to 63rd Street.
Some highlights of the July 14, 2023 celebration in New York City include:
