The Guerreros are officially the Kings of the Home Run Derby.

Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. survived a late run from Randy Arzarina to win the first Derby title of his career at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park.

Guerrero hit a career-best 25 home runs in his finals to clinch the title, eventually defeating Arruzarena 25-23 in the final round.

The win made Guerrero and his father Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr. a title. A familiar name. The first father-son duo to be home derby champions. Vladimir Sr. won the derby in 2007 in San Francisco.

Guerrero needed only 72 home runs to win the title, the fourth most he has won in a single derby. He now hits 163 in the Derby, which puts him second all-time behind Pete Alonso.

The 24-year-old, born in Montreal, is the first Blue Jays player to win the Derby. He also joins Justin Morneau (2008) as the only Canadian-born player to win.

This year’s event saw a Home Run Derby record-breaking 341 homers throughout the evening.

Rodriguez dug himself a small hole after a great first lap, only reaching 20 in the second and leaving the door wide open for Guerrero to move on.

And Vlady does not miss. The Blue Jays basketball player ruined the home crowd’s party by hitting his 20th home run as time expired, then hit J-Rod with a direct shot into overtime to reach the final.

This is the second time Guerrero has reached the final round. He got there as a starter in 2019, but lost out to Alonso.

Arosarina set the bar high for top seed Robert, hitting a 35-run homer for second. Alonso’s first race of 2021 is tied for the fourth-most singles track of all time. His 59-year-old two-point entourage is currently tied for sixth all-time in a single derby.

Robert scored 22 goals but did not come close to catching Arosarina, who easily qualified for the final. His second inning included a climactic, 484-foot homer that was Monday’s longest fight up to that point.

There is no place like home.

Backed by a lovable, boisterous crowd of Mariners fans, Rodriguez picked up where he left off last year by smashing 32 hurdles before overtime, on his way to ending his first innings run with a 41-bomb, making him the only player to hit multiple home runs. 30 in Derby history, while his 41 barriers represent a new single-run record.

Alonso, who was chasing his third Derby title, simply didn’t have an answer for J-Rod. The Mets broom hit a respectable 21 before the clock finally ticked. It’s the second year in a row that Rodriguez has sacked Alonso, who was also knocked out in the semifinals last summer at Dodger Stadium.

Alonso was working with a new pitcher to practice hitting. Rami Friedlin was unable to make it to Seattle due to a forearm injury.
