The Toronto Maple Leafs made a controversial signing when they signed John Kellenberg to a one-year, $4 million deal. Now the question is, what effect will Klingberg have on the Maple Leafs?
The Maple Leafs have made great strides, so is Klingberg one of them?
The recent signings of free agents by the Maple Leafs are viewed – in general – as positive. But the jury seems to be out on how effective Kellenberg will be with the team. In this episode of Maple Leafs Hockey Writers Hall. Maple Leafs Book FairWriters Peter Baracchini and Jim Parsons discuss Klingberg’s potential impact on the team.
In this article, I’ll be sharing what they had to say in their conversation and adding my own thoughts into the mix. How important is Kellenberg’s signing to the team? At one point he was a good, solid, high-scoring defender. Is there a chance this could happen again?
Klingberg’s Modern Performance
Klingberg’s production has fluctuated since his 67-point breakout season with the Dallas Stars. In subsequent seasons, he’s posted total points ranging from 30 to 55. Last season, he had 24 points with the Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild in 17 games before he was traded on schedule. However, as a well-developed defensive lineman, his offensive abilities make him an attractive addition to an offensive team like the Maple Leafs.
