Hamilton Tiger-Cats start QB Taylor Bowl vs Toronto Argonauts

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will have rookie quarterback Taylor Powell at center when they host the Toronto Argonauts on Friday, According to Matthew Chiannitti from TSN.

Powell took the field against the Edmonton Elks last week in place of veteran quarterback Matthew Shilts, who left the game with an injury. Scianitti reports that Shiltz will be on the six-game injured list this week, while Bo Levi Mitchell still isn’t ready to return from the adductor muscle injury he sustained in Week 2.

Powell threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Tim White on his first career throw against the Edmonton Elks last week. He finished the game completing two of four pass attempts for 47 yards and a touchdown.

The six-foot-tall, 207-pound passer signed with Tecates in May. He completed 64.6% of his passes for 2,111 yards, 16 touchdowns and eight interceptions at Eastern Michigan University in 2022. Powell played at Troy University in 2021 and completed 66.1% of his passes for 1,251 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions.

March Fayetteville, Ark. seem. Originally at the University of Missouri where he played in 15 games over three seasons (2017-19). He completed 46% of his pass attempts with the Tigers for 431 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions.

Argos (4-0) will visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-3) on Friday, July 21 with kick-off at 7:30 PM EST. This would be the second of four meetings between the two teams this season, which ended in a 32-14 victory over the Argos at BMO Field.
