Formula 1 championship leader Max Verstappen supported his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez after he ended a dismal streak with a podium finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Dutch coach told the media, among other things, that his strong passing performance saw Perez finish third at the end of the race, losing another 11 points to Verstappen and asked if he could assess his teammate’s efforts this year. Perez’s future with the team is under pressure due to his performance and Daniel Ricciardo’s return to AlphaTauri.
But Verstappen stressed: “We are first and second in the championship, so it was good. It doesn’t matter if it’s perfect. It’s never perfect, but if it’s really good, that’s fine.
“We just have to keep going. Sometimes you have tough times where you make mistakes and learn from them and become a better rider and move forward.
“So. Some things are also beyond your control.”
